Ebonized White Oak
White oak in the CHRONOS Edition is not painted or coated black. The timber is chemically ebonized: a solution developed from vinegar and steel wool carries iron into the wood, where it reacts with the oak's natural tannins and darkens the material itself.
Because the colour is a reaction rather than a skin, the grain and texture remain legible under the black. The volumes read as oak that has changed, not oak that has been covered.
- Darkens from within. An iron-rich solution reacts with the tannins in the timber, turning it black while the grain and texture stay visible and the structure stays sound.
- Sawn square, then ebonized with a solution developed from vinegar and steel wool.
- No black coating is applied; the colour is the timber's own reaction.
